Participation

Who can participate in NEST?
NEST is open to all Northern Virginia residents, 18 years and older.  Younger family members may participate in the programs if space is available.  Pre-registration is required for all programs.

Do I need any experience?
No! Background knowledge or experience is not needed, whether you choose to attend the entire series or help by participating in the surveys. You have plenty of choices and will be able to adjust the program to fit your interests and comfort level.

What are my options for participating in NEST?

  1. Commit to attend the entire NEST series and complete two surveys. (~15 hours)
  2. If you are interested in the program but unable to participate this year, you can greatly assist Joanna Cornell by completing 1-2 surveys (1-2 hours)
  3. Attend any of the listed programs if space is available (3-15+ hours)

Estimated time commitment for NEST is 1-15 hours distributed from March-June, 2006.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR THE THREE OPTIONS:

1. To register for NEST
Send an email with your contact information (mailing address and phone number) to Joanna Cornell. Please mark "NEST registration" in the subject line. You will receive confirmation of your registration through email. We will only call you if your email does not work. We will use address information to find programs close to your home. All information will be sent electronically.

2. To volunteer to complete 1-2 surveys (and not participate in NEST programs). VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!
No experience or background is needed to participate in the surveys. We are looking for people who are generally interested in NEST, but are unable to participate for any reason. If you volunteer to be a "survey only taker" then you will not attend any of the programs. Please only volunteer to take the surveys if you will not have regular contact with NEST participants. Send an email with your contact information to Joanna Cornell. Please mark "survey volunteer" in the subject line. You will receive confirmation of your email and you will find out if you are randomly assigned to take either one (in June) or two surveys (in April and June). The survey can either be emailed to you or you can take it at a number of locations in the evening. Additional information and clear options will be emailed to you.

3. To attend programs but not participate in NEST
You can register directly to the contact at the individual program (listed in the schedule). You will not be eligible for any of the incentives. This is a good option for people with busy schedules who do not want to commit to the entire program.
