The Minor in Business for BS-CIE Students

The Minor in Business is an excellent adjunct to the BS in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering.  It will expand your technical knowledge of engineering and enhance your success in the business of engineering.

To see how you can integrate the BS-CIE degree and the Minor in Business, click here to see a sample schedule. To register for the Minor in Business, click here. For more details on how the Minor in Business and the BS-CIE requirements are jointly satisfied, please read further.

A student pursuing the BS-CIE may take as few as two courses beyond the 120 credits required for the major to earn the Business Minor; however, this requires planning.  MSOM 300 and MSOM 303 are required for the minor, they will not contribute to the BS-CIE degree, and therefore will increase the total number of credits required to earn both the BS-CIE and Business Minor to 126.  MSOM 301 may be counted as a CEIE technical elective.  Taking CS 112 and CEIE 301, required as part of the BS-CIE degree, will substitute for MSOM 302.  And MSOM 305 may be used to satisfy the General Education requirement for a course in Global Understanding.

Take MSOM 300; it will not count toward the BS-CIE degree.

MSOM 301

Managing People and Organizations

Take MSOM 301; it may be used as a CEIE Technical Elective for the BS-CIE degree.

MSOM 302

Managing Information in a Global Environment

Do not take MSOM 302.  Taking CS 112 and CEIE 301 as part of the BS-CIE degree will substitute for MSOM 302.  The SOM will approve this substitution at the time of graduation.

MSOM 303

Marketing in a Global Environment

Take MSOM 303; it will not count toward the BS-CIE degree.
