Arjumand Zaidi - our new Ph.D. in 2005

Arjumand Zaidi is interested in Environmental Engineering and water quality related issues. On November 18, 2004, Arjumand successfully defended her PhD Dissertation “Economic TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load): An Optimization Approach” under the guidance of Dr. Sharon deMonsabert. This research was an effort to incorporate economic criteria in the traditional TMDL allocation framework required by the Clean Water Act. The main objective of this work is to improve the cost-effectiveness of pollution reduction measures at the load allocation stage. To achieve that goal an optimization procedure was developed to allocate loads subject to water quality criteria while minimizing the costs of load reductions. Currently, Arjumand is working as a post doctoral fellow in Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering department at George Mason University, Fairfax. She is teaching a portion of a graduate level course along with working on a project with The Louis Berger Group to deal with the water quality related issues in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The details of the project can be accessed at: http://mason.gmu.edu/~azaidi/
